Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning – How the government can benefit 

AI or Artificial Intelligence is a field of study that deals with the creation of machines that can work and act like humans. The field is massive and it covers everything from language and decision making skills to how machines can perceive the world as we do. While it has immense implications on the humanity front, AI can be leveraged to benefit the government on a grass roots level.

The digital transformation of the government with AI solutions has a number of beneficial implications. From improving public health to providing cyber defense strategies that can enhance public and national security, it can change the way federal agencies operate. This can be anything from moving to online and mobile technologies to the use of SaaS software and cloud tech.

If the government is able to harness its potential and pair it with AI, it can process massive amounts of data quickly thus reducing the time it takes to facilitate the public sector.

With access to immense amounts of data and the introduction of scalable learning techniques that promote deep thinking the government has its work cut out. Better learning techniques have made monitoring changes in AI is difficult to say the least. This hidden aspect can have dire consequences for national security and cyber security as future intelligent tech is designed to become as sentient as possible.

While this might improve productivity and accelerate progress, it also has the potential to go out of control very quickly. That pace is speeding up and governments have to figure out how they should deal with the imminent threat. The best way to do so is to harness the capabilities that AI offers and use them to nip threats in the bud. If its use is regulated, it can go a long way in improving lives and helping federal agencies overcome challenges.

With proper implementation, AI can aid governments in key services in services ranging from social service and health care to emergency services. It can do that by:

  • Improving efficiency by forecasting demand – Using AI government agencies can personalize services that can help officials make informed decisions on the go. Responsive capabilities can allow them to respond to emergencies faster and more efficiently.
  • Automating interaction with the public – Artificial Intelligence can improve response times and as close to real time as it can get. This is made possible with the introduction of interactive interfaces and chatbots that can help the public complete simple tasks and transactions that are present on government websites. With real time response, chat bots are being designed to learn from each interaction and grow thus eliminating the need for human intervention. 
  • Improve cybersecurity – As hackers get intuitive in their attacks, the demand for technology that can combat the threat increases as well. Since AI is intelligent, it can be used to anticipate cyberattacks by analyzing ever changing data models from a number of different sources. Besides this, it can also help in dealing with hidden threats and forecast future ones. With enough advancements, AI can also fix software issues before the weaknesses are exploited. 

Bottom line is Artificial Intelligence has immense benefits on the government level in terms of cyber and international security. Understanding how it can be used to facilitate the people without being exploited is what the government needs to focus on. This includes introducing platforms that can leverage said technology and use it to improve user experience and improve/facilitate lives on a large scale. Of course, government agencies should regulate the use of smart tech as well to ensure it is not exploited.
